Fire Safety Awareness

October is Fire Safety Awareness Month

Neshannock Volunteer Fire Company partners with  NTSD each October to raise fire safety awareness and help ensure our students’ homes and families are prepared in the event of an emergency.  In the primary grades, Sparky the Fire Dog pays a visit to each classroom to discuss fire safety.  Sparky’s visit is something that our youngest learners look forward to each year!  Students were also thrilled to take home their own firefighter helmets, badges, and coloring book!

Special thanks to Neshannock Township Supervisors — Leslie Bucci, Steve Demofonte, and Joe Gierlach — for their continuous support in sponsoring community awareness and outreach programs at NTSD!  Thank you to our Neshannock Volunteer Firefighters, especially our very own Mr. Brad Shaffer, for taking time out of their busy days to enhance our students’ educational experience!

In addition to Neshannock Volunteer Fire Company spreading awareness, students in Mrs. Nugent’s class visited the kindergarten classrooms to promote fire safety.  The high school students prepared a PowerPoint presentation that included kid-friendly graphics and an engaging video.  To conclude the activity, the kindergarten students were allowed time to color the hand-drawn coloring pages (created by Leland Allen) while talking with the “big kids” from the high school! We love that having all of our students under one roof allows for these types of collaborations!

Thank you, Dakota, Jeremy, Matthew, Toby, Isaiah, Jenna, and Leland!  Our kindergarten students learned so much from you!
