Coach G Makes WPIAL History

On the snowy evening of January 24, the Lady Lancers secured a 64-17 victory over Sewickley Academy.  With this win, came WPIAL history!

Coach Luann Grybowski, fondly known as Coach G, joined the exclusive 700 Club!  She joins Coach Don Barth (North Catholic) and Coach De Poruznik (Mt. Alvernia) as the only coaches to reach this WPIAL milestone.  Luann Grybowski is the winningest public school girls basketball coach in WPIAL history!

In her 42 seasons as a girls basketball coach, Coach G’s record now stands at 700-267:

1979 – 1985
Shenango High School
Record:  61-46
1985-1990
New Castle High School
Record: 80-23
1990-1994
Aliquippa High School
Record: 51-18
1994-2009
New Castle High School
Record: 281-99
2009-Present
Neshannock High School
Record: 227-81

Coach Luann Grybowski has led her teams to 15 Section Titles and 5 WPIAL Championships, as well as WPIAL Runner-Up and PIAA Runner-Up.  She hopes to lead the Lady Lancers to another WPIAL Championship in 2022.  Coach G and the Lady Lancers definitely have their eyes set on playing at Giant Center in Hershey again this year, and we hope to see this goal fulfilled!

We are incredibly proud of Coach G and all that she has accomplished with and for her student athletes over the course of four decades!  She is not only a coach, but also a teacher, mentor, and positive force in the lives of all with whom she comes in contact.  We are thrilled to continue to have a front row seat as we watch Coach Luann Grybowski go where no other Lawrence County coach has gone before!

What a legacy!  Congratulations, Coach!
