While the students will soon be walking out the doors for summer vacation, our maintenance department will be kicking things into high gear! Neshannock Township School District will be undergoing some major renovations and improvements starting as soon as May 20th!
During the summer, access within the District buildings will be limited due to the ongoing flooring project. Should you need access, please contact Director of Buildings and Grounds, Mr. Mark Ulam. Thank you for your patience as we make NTSD an even safer, more efficient facility.
Renovation Overview:
- Athletic Complex – Artificial Turf Replacement, Track Replacement, Softball Field Resurfacing
- Flooring Replacement

Athletic Complex Renovations:
Both the football field and baseball field will be getting new artificial field turf. Studies have shown that artificial turf surfaces with an infill weight of 6 pounds or greater result in fewer injuries to athletes. With a 10-year warranty, the products chosen for the football field are both safe and long lasting.
The baseball field turf will be expanded to include the warning track from first base to third base. The pitcher’s mound will also be converted to artificial turf. By including these areas, it will extend the life of the baseball field by keeping clay and crushed red brick away from the artificial surface.
The track surface will also be replaced this spring/summer. This process will entail tearing out the existing track, milling up to 1.5” of existing asphalt, and paving a new top course.
The softball field will be getting an upgrade in the fall. The scope of work will include laser grading, edging, replacing the clay mound, and new infield conditioner. This will allow the field to better absorb and evaporate water when it rains making for more playing opportunities and increased safety. While the softball field will be covered during the winter months, it will be ready for play in the spring.
Timeline: Track, football field, and baseball field work is set to begin on May 20th, 2019 with an estimated completion time of 5 weeks for the football field and 5 weeks for the baseball field. The softball field upgrades are set to begin in the fall of 2019.
Flooring Replacement:
New flooring will be installed throughout much of the District. After much research, Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) was decided upon because of its durability, long warranty, and low maintenance costs. Based on an area of 10,000 square feet, the District is projecting a cost savings of $55,000 over ten years solely on maintenance costs. LVT will replace all of the carpeting in the classrooms and corridors.
Timeline: The flooring project is set to begin on June 10th and will last throughout the summer until completion.
HVAC Replacements and Upgrades:
NTSD is planning to replace 85 classroom and/or office heat pumps, 6 rooftop makeup air units, and 3 rooftop heat recovery units. The domestic hot water systems in both the elementary and junior-senior high schools are being upgraded to new, high-efficiency boilers. In addition to better indoor air quality, the District anticipates receiving a lot of energy savings with the new units.
Timeline: HVAC replacements and upgrades are set to begin on June 10th and will last throughout the summer until completion.
Security Gates:
The safety of our students, faculty, and a staff is paramount. Five new security gates will be installed – two at the elementary school and three at the high school. New door access control points will also be installed in various locations. The installation of these gates and access control points will enhance the continued safety and security of the District both during and after school hours.
Timeline: Gate and access point installation is set to begin on June 10th and should be complete within one month.
